Crews rescue missing pilot near Mount Baker
911

A Bellingham man is back home today after being rescued from Mount Baker.

According to Whatcom County officials, the 28-year-old pilot failed to return Saturday night after taking off in a Piper aircraft.

The pilot made initial contact with emergency crews but they were not able to gather much information on his exact whereabouts due to poor cell service.

A signal from his emergency beacon helped notify aviation crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation. The Skagit County Sheriff's Office organized a search team using snowmobiles.

They were able to find the missing pilot and bring him off the mountain.

WSDOT and the FAA are currently investigating.
